Reduce the weight and amount of plastic in finished goods with our foaming agents

With chemical foaming agents for thermoplastic materials and intensive advice on their selection and use, together with our partners at Tosaf, MM Polytrade, we can offer a high quality and broad portfolio of foaming agents and personalized solutions.

What is a foaming agent?

A foaming agent is a chemical substance used to create microcells within polymers. This foaming process reduces the density of the material, making it lighter and with porous properties. Foaming agents can be either endothermic or exothermic and are used in various industries to enhance the characteristics and properties of plastics, such as reducing weight, improving thermal and sound insulation, increasing flexibility, and creating lighter products, lighter weight products result in lower transportation costs and reduced environmental impact.

The use of foaming agents not only improves manufacturing processes, Sink marks can be avoided to a large extent, minimizing rejects even if there are high demands on surface quality. At the same time, foaming has no effect on recycling behaviour. Hence, the recyclability of the plastics in the materials cycle is maintained.

Our portfolio includes endothermic and exothermic types with application-specific advantages for a wide range of thermoplastics. For all of them, the production of foams with uniform cell size and consistent material properties requires a great deal of experience in choosing the right foaming agent as well as in process optimization.

  • Endothermic foaming agents absorb energy during processing and release carbon dioxide when heated. They are safe to use, approved for food contact, and usually require low temperatures for activation. Our portfolio consists of various types of endothermic foaming agents suitable for different industries and manufacturing processes from including thin-wall injection molding, production of small technical parts and electronic components to large products such as waste containers, plastic pallets, garden furniture, XPS, and XPE trays for food packaging.

  • Exothermic foaming agents, primarily based on azodicarbonamide, release energy during processing and have a very good dispersibility. Together with Tosaf, we can offer different types of exothermic foaming agents used in industries such as construction, manufacturing of non-food contact products, and production of sewage pipes.

  • In addition to the two main types, we can also provide combined foaming agents that combine exothermic and endothermic properties, specifically designed for applications such as PVC sheets, profiles, and pipes.

To the foamind agents, our portfolio also includes other additives that can contribute to greater sustainability, including antioxidants, moisture and odor absorbers, molecular chain extenders, processing aids and more.
